RODEC™ Anchor Catcher

RODEC Anchor Catcher Graphic

The RODEC™ Model A Mechanical Tubing Anchor Catcher is a retrievable double-grip anchor designed to anchor the tubing string in tension or compression in wells of any depth. This prevents movement of the tubing string during pumping operation, thus increasing pump efficiency and decreasing rod wear.

Anchor Catchers are factory furnished with 50,000 lbs. (22,000 daN) secondary release shears unless otherwise specified. Shear value may be easily changed in the field by removing the required number of 5,000 lbs. (2,200 daN) shear screws located below the drag block assembly.

Features

  • Fully retrievable
  • Released by left hand rotation
  • Drag blocks for setting and releasing control in wells at any depth
  • Emergency shear release, each shear pin 5,000 lbs. (2,200 daN)

Principle of Operation

Install the Model A Anchor Catcher in the tubing string just below the pump for best results, although it may be installed at any desired point. Run to the desired depth. Rotate the tubing to the right to initially set the unit. The weight of the casing in which the anchor is set will govern the number of turns required. To ensure the slips are engaged with the casing, hold right hand torque on the tubing and set down 10,000 - 14,500 lbs. (4,500 to 6,500 daN) of tubing weight. Pick up and set down several times while holding right hand torque on tubing to ensure the slips are properly set. Pick up until sufficient tension is reached.

To release the Anchor Catcher lower the tubing to release tension and rotate to the left while working the tubing up and down slightly. Should the Anchor Catcher fail to release with normal procedures, an upward pull of the tubing string weight plus the total value of the shear screws will release the Anchor Catcher.
